This weekend, Jon and I experienced Chuck & Birds for the first time. We’ve wanted to try it ever since we received a gift card from The Quest For Zest’s Fantastic Foodie contest, but there’s always been a reason we couldn’t make it. Saturday, when setting out on our morning bike ride, we had no idea where the day would lead us. I certainly didn’t bank on trekking to the ’07 for lunch. Over fifteen miles and a lot of re-hydrating later, we found ourselves popping in to cool down and fill up.
I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Chuck & Birds, but I was not prepared for just how good it is. It’s no secret that I have terribly high standards. Because Jon whips up such delicious meals for us, it’s hard for me to find anything to top his cooking. Chuck & Birds succeeded. I enjoyed one of the day’s specials: an Heirloom Tomato, Eggplant, and Mozzarella salad, which was served with fresh basil and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. Jon tried the Korean BBQ Beef Bibb Wraps and we shared the Polenta Fries.
The Polenta Fries were served with 3 dipping sauces: garlic, basil and jalapeno. All three sauces were amazing in their own right, but I give the basil the top rating. Cool, fresh and creamy- the perfect topping to the crispy and piping hot fries. We’ve always liked polenta, but we’ve never had it this way and we will definitely have to try it ourselves at home.
My salad, to put it simply, was the bomb. The biggest tomatoes I’ve ever seen, coupled with the lightly fried eggplant, fresh basil and thick slices of mozzarella made for one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten. So fresh, so flavorful, and so light. It was the perfect fuel for the ride back home.
Jon’s Bibb Wraps were incredibly unique and packed a spicy punch. Filled with Asian marinated skirt steak, scallions, julienne apple and mango, the dish provided a succulent combination of fresh, sweet and spicy. Jon especially liked the “carb free” aspect of the dish. He hates filling up on that “unnecessary stuff.”
I feel as if this first trip was just a teaser. I can’t wait to go back to try other treasures on the menu, which you can view <<HERE>>.
While it is just milk, if you want a delicious dairy treat, pick up some of the Hartzler Dairy milk. You will not be disappointed!
Although we have not made it to Chuck & Bird’s yet, we just put in an offer on a house in the ’07 and if it all works out we will be able to make C&B’s a frequent walking destination. Glad you two enjoyed it!
Definitely just became a stop on my travels. THIS WEEK! Great photos by the way. Made me lick my monitor. Blech.
What a great compliment. Thank you!
I’ve only eaten at C&B once, but it was a delightful experience. What you posted looks amazing! I’m so glad they’re in our community.
Nice article, and I’m so glad you guys made it there. If we want Chuck & Bird’s to be a fixture in our community we all need to keep supporting them. (Thanks for the plug too!)
